When Winai’s mother died, he was left alone without family. He could collect rice in the village but was forced to eat and live alone in a shed in the forest. In the eyes of the villagers he was an evil spirit. He often got beat and was not allowed to be close to the other children. That is how we found the scared, HIV-infected five year old, as we brought him to Eden.
Surrounded by love, he changed into the happiest and most unwary little boy. There are still days when he is very ill, with severe headache, skin rash and diarrhoea. But now he does not have to be alone; there is always someone who can comfort and help him here.
The school bus stops at the boarding home in HuaDoi. BaanChivitMai runs three homes for children from the mountain villages.
