The work in the Bangkok slum area In the slum areas of Bangkok, BaanChivitMai runs a day care centre for young people with handicaps and social problems. The ministry was founded already in 1989 and became the starting point for BaanChivitMai. Every day, silk flowers are manifactured here, which are then sold to benefit the ministry financially. Some ten teenage girls work here in the daytime and study in the evening. In addition to that, roughly ten 20-year-olds with slight mental handicaps are emplyed here as well. The centre also receives some 25 children for preschool in the daytime. A teacher teaches them and some elderly women help. In a world that is otherwise characterized by violence and misery, the children find here a breathing space with love and care. A considerable outreach work is also pursued, where families in the slum get visits by teams and physiotherapists. ![]() The teacher at the centre has an assembly with the preschool children. |
