The boarding home in HuaDoi Our biggest project is the boarding home in HuaDoi, seven kilometres east of Chiang Rai. Here, approximately 60 children from villages in Northern Thailand have their home. The children are from ages 6-18 years old and attend elementary, secondary and upper secondary school in the public schools in Chiang Rai. Without the boarding home, the children would not receive any education as their villages lie too far away from Thai schools. Many of the children have lost their parents due to AIDS or because the parents are imprisoned with long sentences owing to drug traffic. For that reason, the children have nowhere else to go. The boarding home works like a family, with the managers as parents. Everyone join hands in household tasks like cooking and cleaning up. The home is nearly self-sufficient with its own ricefields, pigs, chicken, water buffaloes, fish, vegetables and fruit trees. ![]() The children come back to HuaDoi from a day in school in Chiang Rai. |
